Channel 5
Monday, May 5, 2025 3:30 PM (30 Minutes)
The session is intended to support continuity readiness and will involve speaker presentation with opportunities for attendee participation, as well as Q&A focused on addressing the basic interrogatives of essential records assessments, and including discussion involving practical guidance and procedures associated with: what it is and is intended to address; why it is conducted; who is involved; where it is conducted; when it is conducted; and, how to effectively conduct and report completion. NOTE: Due to the time limitations for this session, the demo of the Portal for Essential Records Management (PERM) is not included. However, you may request a demo through your DOE Element Primary Essential Records Liaison (PERL) or PERM User(s). Contact the DOE Essential Records Program via essentialrecords@hq.doe.gov if you need assistance identifying your PERL and PERM User(s).
The presentation will discuss the five key steps in DOE essential records management -- Indentify, Document, Position, Protect, Access -- and offer resources and references to assist attendees and their organizations, such as slick sheets, slide presentations, and tools. The presentation will also feature a demonstration of the DOE enterprise tool known as the "Portal for Essential Records Management" or PERM -- a database tool developed by DOE to assist with compliance and reporting.
Attendees will gain awareness and (improved) understanding of the requirements and benefits to be gained from essential records assessments, as well as the basics of how to conduct the same.
