Hurricane Helene produced unexpected amounts of wind damage well inland, which was suprising, given how far west the center of circulation passed from SRS. The presentation will present the forecast development prior to landfall, the progression of the storm inland and the impact to the site.
Clues to this unexpected behavior may not have lead to a better forecast, but clues could lead to better nowcasting. Synoptic and convective scale and the impact to the damage will be examined for the impact.
SRS suffered extensive loss of trees and overall damage. Of specific interest to ATG is the loss of two of the eight 200-ft meteorological towers that are used for emergency response.
