Synopsis

In 2023 KCNSC undertook an ambitious effort to utilize emergency management principles to manage acute events that challenged our ability to meet our mission. KCNSC expanded it's definition of an emergency and put in place an Incident Management Team made up of cross divisional leaders to ensure KCNSC managed disruptive events or failures of critical infrastructure as one cross functional group. This effort has reduced organizational siloing, provided for better continuity of operations, and increased our leaders' abilities to manage operational emergencies. Incident Management Team activations in 2024 included a labor strike, protest, extreme cold weather event, and 1 operational emergency and will be reviewed during the presentation.

Best Practices

Expanded the definition of emergency to include any acute event that challenged our ability to meet our mission (including failures of critical infrastructure), provided for scaled activation levels, and formed  an Incident Management Team to manage less incidents

Lessons Learned

Will review team activations throughout 2024 and describe how this approach prepares our leaders in real life situation to handle more sigficiant emergencies in the future
