Technical Basis
A review of the sources identified limited exposure and toxicity data. A summary of GHS hazard statements indicates mid-level hazards for skin, eye, and respiratory irritation, therefore an assumed HHR=2 was evaluated.
Due to the limited sources, this review also evaluated the approach taken by Rev. 29A, using a starting point of a similar chemical: 1,3-dimethoxybutane (CASRN: 10143-66-5.) The chemical similarities were determined to be weak, specifically the significant differences in density and boiling point when compared with the compound of interest, therefore this starting point was not used. An HHR=2 was used as the starting point to estimate the TEEL-3 value. TEEL-1 and TEEL-2 estimates were calculated from the TEEL-3, according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Estimated from HHR=2 (rat, oral LD50)
This review generated TEEL values inconsistent with those published in Rev. 29A.
