Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: a TLV-TWA and numerous animal toxicity sources. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route based on the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The most complete and highest ranked toxicity identified was a rat oral LD¬50¬, which was selected as the TEEL-3 basis. TEEL-2 values were calculated according to Table 3.5. The TLV-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = TLV-TWA (1 ppm) x 3
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Rat oral LD50 (2300 mg/kg)
This review generated TEEL-3 and TEEL-2 values that are consistent with those in Rev. 29A; there are no changes to the TEEL-3 or TEEL-2 methods or results. The prior TEEL-1 was TEEL-2/11, but the recommended TEEL-1 is now based on exposure limits which is preferred (see Table 3.1).
