Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified both exposure (TLV-TWA, IDLH,) and acute toxicity data. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The most preferred source, the 1990 IDLH, was selected as the TEEL-3. A human (male) TDLo was selected as the TEEL-2 basis. The TLV-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = TLV-TWA x 3 (0.2 mg/m3)
• TEEL-2 = Human (male) oral TDLo (7,500 ug/kg/7D; severe headache, nausea, coma)
• TEEL-3 = IDLH (1990, 5 mg/m3)
This review generated TEEL-3 and TEEL-1 values that are consistent with Rev. 29A. The current TEEL-2 basis is a more preferred method than Rev. 29A, which derived a TEEL-2 according to Table 3.5 (Section 3.4.2).
