Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: LOC, OEL-TWA (Latvia), and acute toxicity data (LC50, LD50) for various species and routes. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The most preferred exposure, a rat LC50, was selected as the TEEL-3 basis and was scaled to a 60-minute equivalent using the ten Berge equation (Section 3.3.4). The LOC was selected as the TEEL-2. The OEL-TWA (Latvia) was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = OEL-TWA (Latvia, 0.01 mg/m3) x 3
• TEEL-2 = LOC (0.0009 g/m3)
• TEEL-3 = Rat LC50 (2 g/m3/4H)
This review generated TEEL-2 and TEEL-3 values that are consistent with Rev. 29A. There are no changes to the TEEL-2 and TEEL-3 values or methodology, which remain based on the highest priority exposure limit, the LOC, and acute toxicity data, a rat LC50, respectively. In Rev. 29A the TEEL-1 was derived from the LOC, however, this review found and used an OEL-TWA (Latvia) as the basis.
