Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: a TLV-TWA (fluorides), fluorides IDLH (1990), and rat LD50 toxicity data. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data was evaluated using the type of exposure, species, and route preferability stated in Sections 3.3.1, and 3.3.2. The fluorides IDLH (1990) was selected as the TEEL-3. The TEEL-2 was derived according to Table 3.5. The TLV-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = Fluorides TLV-TWA x 3
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Fluorides IDLH (1990)
This review resulted in TEEL values that are inconsistent with those in Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL bases are consistent, however the current review does not apply a molecular weight adjustment since the chemical is classified as a fluoride and no weight adjustment is needed (Section 3.4.6).
