Technical Basis
Limited data is available for ammonium iodide, no exposure limits were identified during research. A structurally similar chemical, ammonium chloride (CASRN: 121250-02-9), was evaluated for use in the ammonium iodide TEEL development. Ammonium chloride and ammonium iodide both have HHR=2.

A review of available sources was able to identify exposure limit and toxicity data for ammonium chloride. Of the available toxicity data, the LD50 rat oral dosage was selected as the TEEL-3 basis. A TEEL-2 is derived from the fill gap adjustment factors listed in Table 3.5 in the handbook. Both TLV-TWA and TLV-STEL exposure limits are available for TEEL-1; TLV-STEL is chosen based on preference, listed in Table 3.1 in the handbook.

TEEL-1 = TLV-STEL (20 mg/m3; NH4Cl, CASRN: 12125-02-9)
TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
TEEL-3 = Rat oral LD50 (1650 mg/kg; NH4Cl, CASRN: 12125-02-9)

This review generated values that are less conservative than those reported in Rev. 29A. In Rev. 29A, iodide data was weight adjusted, however this recommendation uses ammonium chloride toxicity and exposure limit data as the basis for TEEL development.
