Technical Basis
This chemical has no exposure limits available. Toxicity data was also not found. Health hazard ratings (HHR) and related chemicals were investigated for TEEL development.

Analysts used HHR data, applying Table 3.4 and Table 3.5:
TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
TEEL-3: LD50, Rat, Oral, Dose = 400 mg/kg (HHR = 3)

Analysts’ methods align and converge to the same values. A significant change to the TEELs presented in Rev 29A is recommended. The prior use of ammonia AEGLs was considered non-conservative regarding TEEL application by the analysts. The relationship between ammonia and lithium nitride was explored: As an alternative to the Haber-Bosch process, an electrochemical method for ammonia production has been proposed, where lithium nitride is created and reacts with a proton carrier (e.g., ethanol) to form ammonia. Comparing other properties of the two, such as reactivity, lithium nitride is highly flammable, a strong reducing agent, water-reactive, and pyrophoric, while ammonia is solely water-reactive. Since ammonia is derived from lithium nitride through a chemical reaction, and it is not necessarily a similar structure, it was determined that it is more appropriate to use the more conservative TEELs derived from the HHR, instead of the ammonia AEGLs. TEELs were rounded to two significant figures and converted from referenced units to either ppm or mg/m3, providing both values.
