Technical Basis
A review of available data sources identified the following: a rat oral LD50 and a human (female) oral TDLo. Analysts explored this toxicity data, applying Tables 3.1, and 3.4 from the handbook to derive TEEL-3 (LD50) and TEEL-2 (TDLo) values. A TEEL-1 was derived according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = Human (female) oral TDLo (6 mg/kg, coma toxic endpoint)
• TEEL-3 = Rat oral LD50 (613 mg/kg)
The current TEEL-3 concurs with Rev. 29A, while TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 are more conservative. Previously, these limits were derived from TEEL-3 using the adjustment factors in Table 3.5, while the current approach is the use independent data for the TEEL-2 basis.
