Technical Basis
A review of available sources did not identify exposure limits or acute toxicity data for ammonium sulfite. Reported GHS health hazard ratings (H314, H315, H319, H335, Category 1-3) indicate a high to mid-level health hazard, approximately equivalent to an HHR between 2 and 3. However, this chemical does not meet GHS hazard criteria in 68% of surveyed reports. Considering this, the PNOS TLV-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis (PNOS, Section 3.5.2). TEEL-3 and TEEL-2 values were derived according to Table 3.5.
• PAC-1 = TEEL-1 = TLV-TWA (PNOS, 10 mg/m3) x 3
• PAC-2 = TEEL-2 = TEEL-1 x 11
• PAC-3 = TEEL-3 = TEEL-2 x 6
This review generated PAC values that are consistent with Rev. 29A*.
