Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified acute toxicity data for manganese(III) oxide (LDLo, LD50) and exposure limits for manganese (CASRN: 7439-65-5). Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. The acute toxicity data reported for manganese(III) oxide was delivered via routes not defined for TEEL development (intratracheal, subcutaneous); therefore, these were not further developed. Instead, a compound adjustment factor was applied to selected manganese exposure limits (Section 3.2.2), with the PEL-C as the TEEL-2 and the REL-STEL as the TEEL-1. The TEEL-3 value was derived according to Table 3.5.
