Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified an LC50. Due to the limited sources, this review also evaluated TLV-TWA and LC50 exposures for a similar chemical: Tetradhydrofuran (THF, CASRN: 109-99-9.) Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The LC50 for the chemical of interest was selected as the basis for the TEEL-3 estimate; evaluation of compound adjusted THF exposures resulted in a higher TEEL-3 estimate and was not used. The concentration was time-scaled to a 60-minute basis using the ten Berge equation (Section 3.3.4). TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 estimates were calculated from this TEEL-3 value, according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Estimated from rat 4-hr LC50 (6000 ppm)
This review generated TEEL values consistent with those published in Rev. 29A.
