Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified exposure limits (LOC, STEL, TWAs) and acute toxicity data (LC50, LD50) for several species and routes. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Inhalation exposures were scaled to 60-minute equivalents using the ten Berge equation (Section 3.3.4). Analysts evaluated available rat inhalation sources selected the lowest 1-hour rat LC50 (Section 3.3.2) form the most reliable source as the TEEL-3 basis (Section 3.3.1).
• TEEL-1 = TLV-TWA (0.05 mg/m3) x 3
• TEEL-2 = LOC (0.00063 gm/m3)
• TEEL-3 = Rat LC50 (94 mg/m3/1H)
This review generated a TEEL-3 value inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A TEEL-3 basis, a 4-hour rat LC50, was found during the review, but was determined that there were insufficient study details available. Instead, analyst selected the lowest 1-hr LC50 as the TEEL-3. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values, source, and methodology are consistent.
