Technical Basis
A review of available data sources identified the following: LD50 (Rat1-3) exposures for the oral routes. Due to limited source material, and HHR=2 was also evaluated, corresponding to a recommended NFPA health rating of 34. Each was evaluated using the guidelines for calculating equivalent values and a duration of 1 day was assumed for all exposure, when it was not specified.
The HHR=2 generated the highest TEEL values but confirmed the order of magnitude expected from other estimates. The rat oral LD50 with the most reputable and current data was selected to estimate a TEEL-3 (Section 3.3.1). TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 estimates were calculated from the TEEL-3 value, according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Estimated from rat, oral LD50
This review generated TEEL values consistent with those published in Rev. 29A.
