Technical Basis
A review of available sources did not identify exposure limits or acute toxicity data for this chemical. PermafluorTM E+ is a chemical mixture that is 80-100% 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene (pseudocumene, CASRN: 95-63-6). Considering this, analyst evaluated exposure limits (AEGLs) for pseudocumene. The AEGLs were selected as the TEELs due to their usage priority among the emergency exposure limits (Section 1). The TEEL-3 value was derived according to Table 3.5.
• PAC-1 = TEEL-1 = AEGL-1 (pseudocumene, CASRN: 95-63-6; 140 ppm)
• PAC-2 = TEEL-2 = AEGL-2 (pseudocumene, CASRN: 95-63-6; 360 ppm)
• PAC-3 = TEEL-3 = TEEL-2 x 6
This review generated PAC values inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A TEEL-1 and TEEL-2 bases were pseudocumene AEGL-1 and AEGL-2; however, the values were reported incorrectly reported in units of mg/m3. The current TEEL-1 and TEEL-2 bases are pseudocumene AEGL-1 and AEGL-2 values, reported in units of ppm; the PermafluorTM E+ was assumed to be pseudocumene because it is the primary component of the chemical mixture. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-3 use the same methodology, with differences due to the change in TEEL-2.
