Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: a Level of Concern (LOC) and LD50 toxicity data. Additionally, a TLV-TWA and IDLH (1990) for mercury compounds [except for (organo) alkyls, as Hg; CASRN: 7439-97-6] were identified and scaled with a compound adjustment factor (Section 3.2.2). Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. The adjusted IDLH for mercury compounds was selected for TEEL-3, due to its high preferability as a source. The LOC was selected for TEEL-2. The adjusted TLV-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = MW-adj. TLV-TWA (0.1 mg/m3, Hg CASRN: 7439-97-6) x 3
• TEEL-2 = LOC
• TEEL-3 = MW-adj. IDLH (1990) (28 mg/m3, Hg CASRN: 7439-97-6)
This review generated TEEL-3 and TEEL-2 values that are consistent with those in Rev. 29A.The Rev. 29A TEEL-1 was derived from the TEEL-2 value, while the current TEEL-1 basis is a TLV-TWA for Hg compounds. The current basis is consistent with the TEEL-3 basis, and was therefore determined to be a more preferred value.
