Technical Basis
A review of available sources found toxicity data for this chemical. Although the rat LD50 was the more preferred species, its source, a corporate summary report vs. peer-reviewed journal, was less reliable. Therefore, mouse oral LD50 data was selected as the TEEL-3 basis. TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values were calculated from this TEEL-3, in accordance with guidelines in the handbook (Table 3.5.)
TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
TEEL-3 = Mouse oral LD50 (190 mg/kg)
This review generated slightly more conservative values than those reported in Rev. 29A. In Rev. 29A, the TEEL-3 was estimated from molecular weight adjusted Cr(VI) TLV and IDLH values, while the current recommendation is based on Hazardous Substance Database toxicity data. It was deemed preferable to use data associated with the chemical of interest, if credible, versus a component that requires a weight-adjustment.
