Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: WEEL-TWA, OEL-STEL (Poland), and numerous rat and mouse LD50 toxicity data for various routes (intraperitoneal, intravenous, oral, skin). Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The most preferred species and route, a rat oral LD50 (73 mg/kg) from ECHA was selected as the TEEL-3 basis, and the TEEL-2 value was derived according to Table 3.5. The WEEL-TWA and OEL-STEL (Poland) were considered for the TEEL-1 basis and yielded values of 0.075 mg/m3 and 0.1 mg/m3 respectively. Due to its conservatism, the WEEL-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis.
• TEEL-1 = WEEL-TWA x 3 (0.005 ppm, 0.025 mg/m3)
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Rat oral LD50 (73 mg/kg)
This review generated a TEEL-1 value that is consistent with Rev. 29A. The TEEL-1 and TEEL-2 bases remain consistent with Rev. 29A, with the difference in the TEEL-2 value attributed to the change in the TEEL-3 basis. While the Rev. 29A basis was also a rat oral LD50 (500 mg/m3), the recommended value is based on more conservative rat oral LD50 data (73 mg/kg) from ECHA.
