Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified oral LD50 toxicity data for various species, and exposure limits (OEL-TWA, MAK-STEL). Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Multiple rat oral LD50 were evaluated for the TEEL-3 basis, therefore analysts selected the lowest reported dose (591 mg/kg) as the TEEL-3 basis. The TEEL-2 2 was derived according to Table 3.5. The MAK-STEL was selected as the TEEL-1.

This review generated PAC values inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-3 basis are both rat oral LD50 toxicity data; however, the current recommendation is based on a more conservative dose. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-2 methodology remain consistent, with the difference in value due to the change of the TEEL-3 basis. In Rev. 29A, the TEEL-1 was derived from the TEEL-2 (Table 3.5), while the current recommendation is an exposure limit (MAK-STEL).
