Technical Basis
A review of limited available sources identified the following: rat LCLo toxicity data. This was selected as the TEEL-3 basis and scaled to a 60-minute equivalent exposure with the ten Berge equation (Section 3.4.4). TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values were calculated from this TEEL-3, according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Rat 10-minute LCLo (2760 mg/m3)
This review generated values that are significantly more conservative than those published in Rev. 29A due to a different basis. In Rev. 29A, the recommendation was a molecular weight adjusted IDLH for fluorides. Upon this review, the chemical was determined to not meet the definition of a fluoride; it classified as a polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS). Therefore, the current recommendation is to use available toxicity data as the basis for the TEEL-3 derivation.
