Technical Basis
Boron trifluoride-dimethyl ether is a complex of boron trifluoride and dimethyl ether used as a source of boron trifluoride in manufacturing. A review of limited sources identified acute toxicity data (LCLo) for boron trifluoride-dimethyl ether. In addition, there are exposure limits available for boron trifluoride (AEGLs, ERPGs; CASRN: 7637-07-2) and exposure limits/acute toxicity data for dimethyl ether (CASRN: 115-10-6) that were evaluated for TEEL development. Of these, boron trifluoride is significantly more toxic than dimethyl ether and had exposure limits with use priority as TEEL sources (AEGLs, Section 1); as such, the AEGLs for boron trifluoride were selected as the TEEL values.
