Technical Basis
A review of available data sources identified the following exposure limits and toxicity data for this chemical: human and monkey inhalation TCLo, rat inhalation LC50, 30-and-60-minute EEGLs, and a NIOSH REL-TWA. The EEGLs were selected as the TEEL-3 and TEEL-2 basis and the REL-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis due to their preference (see Table 3.1).
• TEEL-1 = REL-TWA (1000 ppm) x 3
• TEEL-2 = EEGL 60-minute (25,000 ppm)
• TEEL-3 = EEGL 30-minute (40,000 ppm)
This review generated a TEEL-2 value that is inconsistent with that reported in Rev. 29A, while the TEEL-1 and TEEL-3 values remain consistent. In this review, all three TEELs had different methodologies compared to Rev. 29A. In Rev. 29A the TEEL-3 basis was an IDLH (1994). However, in this review, the 30-minute EEGL, a more preferred data source (Table 3.1), was found, selected, and yielded the same value. In the previous revision, a monkey 15-min TCLo was used as the TEEL-2 basis. A 60-minute EEGL is recommended, as exposure limits are preferable to toxicity data. Finally, the REL-TWA was found and used as the TEEL-1 basis, considering source preferability (REL-TWA > TEEL-2/11). This yielded the same value as Rev. 29A.
