Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified: a MAK-C, in addition to LD50 and LC50 (mouse, rat) acute toxicity data. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. The more preferred species and route acute toxicity data, a rat LC50, was selected as the TEEL-3 basis and scaled to a 60-minute equivalent using the ten Berge equation (Section 3.3.4). The MAK-C was selected as the TEEL-2. The TEEL-1 was derived according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = MAK-C (15 mg/m3)
• TEEL-3 = Rat LC50 inhalation (3800 mg/m3/4H)
This review generated TEEL-3 values that are consistent with Rev. 29A and TEEL-2/TEEL-1 values that are inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-3 basis and methodology are the same. The Rev. 29A TEEL-2 was derived from the TEEL-3, while the current TEEL-2 is a preferred source listed in Table 3.1. The Rev. 29A and current TEEL-1 methodology is consistent, with the difference in value due to the TEEL-2 change.
