Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: PEL-TWA (organic arsenic (CAS: 7440-38-2) compounds), rat oral LD50 and LCLO toxicity data. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Although inhalation data is preferred, the rat oral LD50 was selected as the TEEL-3 basis, because it is a more current source (1993 vs. 1986, Section 3.3.1) and is more statistically reliable (Appendix A, A-3). The TEEL-2 was derived according to Table 3.5. The arsenic PEL-TWA was selected as the TEEL-1 basis and a compound adjustment factor applied (Section 3.2.2).
• TEEL-1 = CAF-adjusted PEL-TWA x 3 (organic arsenic compounds CASRN: 7440-38-2, 0.5 mg/m3)
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Rat oral LD50 (700 mg/m³)
This reviewed generated TEEL-3 and TEEL-1 values consistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A TEEL-2 was derived from a rat oral TDLo that was not found in the current review and the current TEEL-2 was instead derived from the TEEL-3 (Table 3.5).
