Technical Basis
A review of available sources acute toxicity data (LDLo, LD50) for two routes and species. AEGLs for cadmium (CASRN: 7440-43-9) were considered to determine expected magnitude of TEELs for cadmium fluoride. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Fluoride exposure limits result in TEELs significantly greater than those developed from acute toxicity data. As such, analysts selected the most preferred route and species toxicity data for cadmium fluoride, a guinea pig oral LD¬¬50, as the TEEL-3 basis. TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values were derived according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = TEEL-2/11
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Guinea pig oral LD50 (150 mg/kg)
This review generated TEEL values that are inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A TEELs were molecular weight adjusted cadmium AEGLs; per Section 3.2.2, AEGLs may not be weight adjusted. Instead, analysts selected available acute toxicity data for cadmium fluoride as the TEEL-3 basis and derived TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values according to Table 3.5.
