A review of available sources did not identify exposure limits or acute toxicity data for cadmium nitrate tetrahydrate. Instead, analysts evaluated available sources for cadmium nitrate (Cd(NO3)2, CASRN: 10325-94-7). AEGLs for cadmium (CASRN: 7440-43-9) and TEEL values for cadmium nitrite (CASRN: 7790-83-2) were considered to determine expected magnitude of TEELs for cadmium nitrate. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Analysts selected the most preferred route and species toxicity data, a rat oral LD50, as the TEEL-3 basis and a molecular weight adjustment was applied (Section 3.4.3.2). This resulted in a TEEL-3 approximately 10x that of cadmium nitrite, which is consistent with regulations. TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values were derived according to Table 3.5.

This review generated TEEL values that are inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A TEELs were molecular weight adjusted cadmium AEGLs; per Section 3.2.2, AEGLs may not be weight adjusted. Instead, analysts selected available acute toxicity data for cadmium nitrate as the TEEL-3 basis and applied a molecular weight adjustment (Section 3.4.3.2); TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values according to Table 3.5.
