Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified acute toxicity (LD50) for several species and routes. In addition, analysts evaluated exposure limits for cadmium (Cd, CASRN: 7440-43-9; AEGLs) for TEEL development. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Analysts considered rat oral LD50, as a TEEL-3 basis; however, the resultant TEELs were several orders of magnitude greater than was expected for a cadmium compound and as indicated by OEL-STELs. Considering this, analysts instead selected the cadmium AEGLs as TEELs for cadmium sulfide (Section 3.4.6), due to their priority among Protective Action Criteria (Section 1).

• TEEL-2 = AEGL-2 (cadmium, CASRN: 7440-43-9)
• TEEL-3 = AEGL-3 (cadmium, CASRN: 7440-43-9)
This review generated TEEL values that are inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The Rev. 29A and current sources are the same, cadmium AEGLs; however, the Rev. 29A values were molecular weight adjusted. The current values are not adjusted, in accordance with Section 3.2.2.
