Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: LDLo (dog,) LD50 (rat,) and TDLo (human) toxicity data for oral and intraperitoneal routes. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. Of the available sources, the rat oral LD50 was the highest ranked species/route and was selected as the TEEL-3 basis. Neither TDLo had appropriate toxicity endpoints, therefore they were not selected as TEEL-2 bases. TEEL-2 and TEEL-1 values were calculated according to Table 3.5.

• TEEL-3 = Rat Oral LD50 (800 mg/kg)
This review generated a TEEL values that are less conservative than those in Rev. 29A. In Rev. 29A, the basis for all TEELs was a mouse oral LD50; the current TEEL-3 and TEEL-2 recommendation is a more preferred species (rat > mouse). The TEEL-2/TEEL-1 methods are consistent; however, the currently recommended TEEL-3 is a lower value, therefore the TEEL-2/TEEL-1 are accordingly also lower.
