Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: TLV-STEL, PEL-C, and IDLH exposure limits for chromic acid and chromates. These data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1.
• TEEL-1 = TLV-STEL (0.0005 mg/m3)
• TEEL-2 = PEL-C (0.1 mg/m3)
• TEEL-3 = IDLH (1990, 30 mg/m3)
The recommended TEEL-3 concurs with Rev. 29A. The current TEEL-2 is an exposure limit, a more preferred source than Rev. 29A (derived, according to Table 3.5). Using independent data is preferable to an adjustment. The Rev. 29A TEEL-1 used a weight-adjusted chromium (VI) TLV-TWA for development. A TLV-STEL identified for the chemical of interest is preferred, according to the data hierarchy.
