Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified the following: a TLV-TWA for aluminum (CASRN: 7429-90-5) and rat LD50 acute toxicity data for intraperitoneal and oral routes. Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. Toxicity data were selected according to type of exposure, species, and route according to the hierarchies stated in Sections 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and evaluated using factors in Tables 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4. While the oral route is preferred, it is reported as a lower limit and was 5x greater than the other available LD50. Instead, the rat intraperitoneal LD50 route was selected as the TEEL-3 basis. TEEL-2 values were derived according to Table 3.5. The TLV-TWA was selected as a TEEL-1 basis and a compound adjustment factor was applied (Section 3.2.2).
• TEEL-1 = CAF adjusted TLV-TWA (aluminum, CASRN: 7429-90-5, 1 mg/m3) x 3
• TEEL-2 = TEEL-3/6
• TEEL-3 = Rat intraperitoneal LD50 (1100 mg/kg)
This review generated TEEL values consistent with those found in Rev. 29A, no new material was discovered that refuted the assertions in Rev. 29A and similar data was used to calculate the proposed values.
