Technical Basis
A review of available sources identified ERPG-1, ERPG-2 and TLV-TWA occupation limits for diesel fuel (CASRN: 68334-30-5; 68476-30-2; 68476-31-3; 68476-34-6; 77650-28-3). Data sources were selected according to the hierarchy listed in Table 3.1. The ERPG-1 was selected as the TEEL-1. The ERPG-2 was selected as the TEEL-2. A TEEL-3 was derived according to Table 3.5.
• TEEL-1 = ERPG-1 (300 mg/m3)
• TEEL-2 = ERPG-2 (1000 mg/m3)
• TEEL-3 = TEEL-2 x 6
This review generated TEEL values which are inconsistent with Rev. 29A. The TEEL-1 values are the same; however, the Rev. 29A basis was a TLV-TWA, and the current value is an ERPG-1. The Rev. 29A TEEL-2 was derived from the TEEL-1, while the current TEEL-2 is an ERPG-2. The use of the ERPG-2 as the TEEL-2 is consistent with handbook Section 3.4.4.1, Point 2: “The TLV-TWA is used until AEGLs or ERPGs are developed for fuel.” There is no reported ERPG for a TEEL-3. Therefore, the TEEL-3 remains derived from the TEEL-2, resulting in a lower value due to the change in TEEL-2.
