Procedures for writing or creating an EPHA may exist, but putting together an EPHA document takes more than following the procedure. It takes experience and learnings from the past to write an EPHA that emergency personnel and decision makers pressed for time will be able to use in a clear cut manner. In many DOE complexes, new analysts are being hired and experienced analysts move to different roles. In this presentation, we will share how new analysts navigate through the intricate world of creating a document with yesterday’s learnings to be ready today and prepare analysts for tomorrow.
With the inexperience of new analysts, more questions are asked and routine stuff are scrutinized. The vague are made clear. EPHA templates are continually evolving to fit more nuances in the analysis and materials analyzed (chemical, radiological, and biological).
What qualities of an analyst should we fashion to new members? How should we take and respond to comments from reviewers (internal and external). Where else can we learn and what else can we learn from other organizations or field of expertise?
