Professional Bio

Lucas J. Basham Murphy is a dedicated emergency management professional with over 15 years of experience, currently leading the Strategic Operations and Response Support group that encompasses the Operations Command Center, Emergency Operations Center, and Continuity of Operations programs for the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS). His tenure in emergency management has been marked by a commitment to excellence in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Lucas' expertise is deeply rooted in his operational leadership during numerous disaster and emergency situations, including hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, floods, aircraft crash and mass causality incidents.

Before his pivotal role at NNSS, Lucas served with the American Red Cross, where he was instrumental in managing and implementing disaster response programs in Nevada, Utah, Arizona and previously, Colorado and Wyoming. Additionally, he deployed with the initial response team and the high hazard response team to devastating large scale disasters across the nation. His work extended internationally to Togo, West Africa, focusing on project coordination and program management in social services.

Lucas holds a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Millersville University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado. His academic background, combined with frontline disaster response experience, positions him as a knowledgeable practitioner in the field of emergency management. Lucas is passionate about building resilient communities and strengthening response mechanisms through collaboration with government and emergency agencies. As a speaker at the Department of Energy EMI SIG Emergency Management Symposium, Lucas looks forward to sharing actionable insights and strategies to enhance emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
