Professional Bio
John Aguiar is a Lead Auditor, Nuclear & Safety Software Quality Assurance Specialist with the National Nuclear Security Administration at the Savannah River Field Office. John provides federal line management oversight, contractor assurance, and independent oversight of the Quality Management System by performing Management System Assessments and Audits to address improvements to processes, products, and services. He performed in the same capacity for the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM) previously.
Before this position, John served as a Program Analyst with the National Nuclear Security Administration at the Savannah River Field Office. In this role, John was responsible for maintaining the Site Tracking, Analysis, & Reporting system and improving the site's safety performance through the enhancement of NNSA's contractor oversight capabilities. John also managed the M&O Contract Oversight and Requirements Program; Directives & Forms Management; he was the System Administrator for the ePegasus & eDOCS Action and Correspondence Systems.
Previously serving as the Corrective Actions Program Manager and Assessment Coordinator with the Savannah River Operations Office. During his time with DOE-EM, John began volunteering and continues to work with the DOE's Emergency Support Function #12 (Energy), facilitating the restoration & recovery of damaged energy systems & components for incidents requiring a coordinated Federal response during a declared emergency.
After 20 years of exemplary service, John retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate of the Personnel Administration School and attended other extensive training schools. John served on several key, career-enhancing assignments. Some of these positions were: Training and Retention Officer, Strength Manager, Recruiter, Recruiting Station Commander, Career Counselor, Assistant Area Leader, Operations Officer, Reenlistment Analyst and has several years of experience in the Human Resources arena.
John is the recipient of over 40 distinguished service awards, achievement medals, and letters of commendation testifying to performance "above and beyond" in every situation throughout a military career.
John has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Columbia Southern University. He is currently completing an MBA with a concentration in Public Administration. In addition to his military service, John volunteers significantly with his local community and various veterans' organizations. Previously serving as the National Vice-President, National Secretary, and South Carolina State Representative for an IRS registered 501(c)19 nonprofit organization with well over 25,000 members worldwide.
Born in Portugal on the island of São Miguel, an archipelago in the mid-Atlantic; John immigrated to the U. S. in 1978; lived in Massachusetts; and settled in South Carolina after his military retirement with his wife Candace and has three adult children.
