Professional Bio
Since January of 2022, Ben Harm has served as the Emergency Management Team manager at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Ben has a team of five emergency management personnel and two meteorologists on his team.
Before joining the laboratory, Ben worked at the Savannah River Site in the Emergency Management group and focused on Offsite Interactions, Projects, and Planning. This included roles in the Emergency Operations Center. Prior to his tenure at SRS, Ben retired from the Aiken (SC) Department of Public Safety, where he had management responsibilities for the EOC, hiring, dispatch, CALEA accreditation, and the Citizen’s Academy. As a Public Safety officer, Ben was trained in both law enforcement and firefighting. Ben had responsibilities for training in both the fire service and law enforcement functions.
Ben is active in the community. Ben has served as the chair of the Leadership Aiken County Board of Directors and the board chair of the Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons. Ben has also served as a volunteer coach for a variety of youth sports. He currently serves on the Emergency Management Issues-Special Interest Group (EMI-SIG) Steering Committee, a group that supports DOE missions through emergency management collaboration. Ben earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Science in Criminal justice from South University.
Ben has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, for 24 years. They have two teenage children who are active in a variety of different sports and activities.
