Steve Hernandez is the Fire Chief and Emergency Services Head at Fermilab, a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory. In this role, he oversees both the Fire Department and the site’s Emergency Management program, ensuring readiness and safety across all operations. With over 28 years of experience in the fire service, Steve is also a regional representative for the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, serving Kane, DuPage, and DeKalb counties. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Safety Management at Southern Illinois University, continuing his commitment to professional development and public service leadership.
